From the humble beginnings in a room in the high school building in 1923 under the direction of Miss Martha Thomassen, and with the strong, constant backing of the Women's Civic Improvement Club, the Newman Grove Public Library has grown into a larger, handicapped-accessible facility which includes a Community Room.  The library is accredited by the Nebraska Library Commission.  It is open 30 hours a week for use, and it is staffed by five librarians.  The collection numbers about 14,000 volumes.

There has been on-going support from the Women's Civic Improvement Club and the community, as well as excellent leadership over the years from librarians Martha Thomassen, Margaret Dillman, Althea Larson, Elinor Boettcher, and current librarian Ardis Von Seggern.

The City of Newman Grove provides the financial support for the library, along with additional funds from Madison County and the State of Nebraska.
