The Columbus Christmas decorations date back in the middle 1960’s and have had only new lights replaced as needed. The first decoration We (Siedlik Signs) restored was in 2003. It was the “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” sign that hangs over 13th street by Schweser’s during the holidays. The City Street department maintains the care of this sign and hangs all the downtown Christmas decorations.

The City Street department was asked by us (Siedlik Signs) about the sign as they were taking it down in January 2003. It was discovered that it was the last year the city was going to be hanging this decoration because of its condition. When the downtown merchants heard that we were taking on this task by ourselves some of the downtown merchants gave donations to help with the project of restoring the "Happy Holiday" decoration. After the restoration many citizens remember when the sign was new and how it brought back memories.

In 2005, the second project we did was the Santa and Reindeers in front of City Hall. This ornament is maintained by the City Parks Department.

Here’s where the postcard comes in:

The decorations on 13th street also are in need of repair or replacement because of Nebraska winters (winds, snow, etc...) and the decorations on 11th Street are also on the CUT list because of their shabby condition. The 11th street decorations are the original ornaments that were on 13th street.

The decorations that you see on the light poles are priced from $300 - $425 for the simple decorations. Just to replace the 20 hanging decorations on 11th street would run from $6,000 to $8,500.

Thus - the reason for PROJECT POSTCARD. To date, the decorations have been funded by Mike & Barb Siedlik of Columbus. Help make this restoration project a reality. Help with the restoration of Columbus history! Purchase your postcards today!
