HISTORY
OF
In 1872, an ancestor of Bernard and Larry Stanislav purchased 480 acres from the Union Pacific Rail Road. Between droughts and grasshoppers and other bad times, the farm eventually ended up with the present 220 acres which has been passed down generation to generation. From the start the farm has been farmed organically. The crops were wheat rye oats and corn with live stock, cattle, hogs and horses. Latter clovers were added for plow down fertilizer and alfalfa still later for feed. Following World War 2 some nitrogen fertilizer was in use until 1972. At that time the farm was returned back to being organically farmed with clovers and alfalfa. from then only manure was the only source of fertilizer used. Since about 1990 Bernard and Larry have been citified organic by the O.C.I. A. Currently growing food grade yellow corn, clear hilum soybeans and red spring wheat. |
