Membership

Dear Nebraska Resident:

As the state’s “Oldest Organization of its Kind,” formed in 1894, the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association has dedicated its cause to our most important resource, the youth of Nebraska.  Each year, we make only one appeal to the residents of Nebraska to support the many programs that we provide for Nebraska youth.  A portion of the funds we receive helps the general welfare of our membership, as well as pays for the following programs and services:

· We provide the 20 hours of continuing education required of all sheriffs as mandated by Nebraska Statute.  We are a reference source for legal questions, and a group to lobby for the interests of law enforcement in the Legislature.  We keep our members up to date with information relative to new legislation and technological advances which impact on law enforcement.

· We work together with all law enforcement agencies to enhance technology, information and provide the highest quality of protection to the citizens of Nebraska.

· We participate in the Nebraska State Fair and the County Fairs to provide fingerprinting, coloring books, Jr. Deputy Stickers, pencils, bikes, and educational materials.

· The Association is a Bronze sponsor of the Special Olympics and the Nebraska State Games.  We have also donated money to 4-H camps, the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial, and COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors).

· We have a “Fatal Vision Goggles” program.  These goggles simulate intoxication at .08-the blood alcohol limit at which you are considered intoxicated.  Sheriffs across the State present the Fatal Vision Program to the public, with a high emphasis on Jr. High and High Schools.

· We provide 2 Walk-Arounds to the Sheriffs’ Offices for use at County Fairs and for school or other organizational gatherings.

· We are also currently working with the Nebraska State Patrol and the Police Officers Association

to provide Nebraska with 3 rollover machines.  These machines made their first appearance at the 2002 Nebraska State Fair, demonstrating the effects of wearing your seat belt in a rollover accident.  This project was started due to the unusually large number of fatalities this year as a result of rollover accidents.

With this in mind, I invite you to once again become an Honorary Member in the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association.  As an Honorary Member you will receive a membership card, a car decal, our magazine, THE NEBRASKA SHERIFF, which is published twice a year, plus a $2,500.00 AD&D insurance policy.

With donations from concerned citizens like you, we can continue to provide these important programs.
